Tuesday 22nd June - Krakow

We headed to Auschwitz and Birkenau concentration camps where between 1-1.5 million people were murdered. This was very sad and it was pretty harrowing to see huge amounts of shoes (small in comparison to what was taken) piled high which were taken from the prisoners along with hair which was cut off and later sold to textile factories, the conditions they lived in were horrific. There were photos of many of the prisoners who were only photographed in the early stages of the camp, some of the photos were of children who had experiments carried out on them and also people who weighed as little as 25kg, as you can imagine this was pretty sickening and everyone on the tour walked around very quiet and somber for the whole day (Bek included who Cass says has verbal diarrhoea) We are glad we visited these places on our first day in Krakow. Pictures are: Tracks to hell - Birkenau railway line where the mainly Jewish passengers disembarked and were gassed at the end of the line & Gates at Auschwitz
