3rd July Szeged Hungary

Synagogue

City centre

Our supposed campsite lol

We arrived here to find our prospective campsite under water as the area had flooded a few weeks previously. At least this makes a change from turning up to the campsite being bulldozed! There were some signs around the town for another campsite 9kms away so we set off there. When we arrived it turned out the campsite was located at a natural spa site called ‘Schzinfurd’ and with our camping pass we could get free admission to the spa. We were excited about this and as soon as we were parked up we went to look at the spa. The excitement soon faded as we were greeted with nothing more than a muddy cold water pool; needless to say we politely declined a dip and opted to venture into town instead!
Szeged is full of pedestrian areas with lots of sidewalk cafes; the main square had three walls with 80 statues of Hungarian notables although we only recognised a few lol. The new synagogue was lovely it is supposed to be the most beautiful Jewish place of worship in Hungary; the interior was painted gold and blue in an art nouveau style.

Tuesday 8th Duisburg to Berlin

Up early again Bek (says she has better navigational skills than Cass so less chance of getting lost, whatever says Cass) went to get the part while Cass readied the van for departure, Bek was back by 10am and we were on the road again by 11.30am on our way to Berlin. It was an uneventful ride to Germanys capital and we found the campsite easily (apart from a few wrong directions from the navigator Cass), the campsite wasn’t aesthetically appealing as it looked like a car park with a cement flooring but we were close to Berlins centre and we were grateful for a hot shower at last. Our first campsite – finally lol
We arrived fairly late and were planning on an early night but the plan never quite went to plan as Bek decided to put her stunt woman skills to practise and literally fell onto a cement plant pot while stepping outside the camper door. Cass had noticed it earlier on and forgot to pre warn Bek (forgot how clumsy she was); anyway after a pirouette and a few barefoot, barelegged commando rolls Bek was left a little bloody. Cass had to put her non existent nursing skill into practise and tried not to faint in the process.

Thursday 3rd June – Windsor to Eindhoven (Netherlands)

Up at 4am (argh reminds Cass of work) to get from Windsor to Dover to catch the 8.15am ferry. It took us 2 and a half hours as Tortoises top cruising speed is 80-90kph lol. At least there will be no chance of us getting caught speeding! The ferry crossing was great, calm and only took an hour and a half. We got lost getting off the ferry and headed into Calais town instead of going towards Dunkirk – We were thinking much more about cheap alcohol and baguettes with fromage to bother with directions lol We got supplies at a huge shop and then headed towards Belgium, drove through Belgium in the same time as a return trip from Perth to Mandurah would take and then proceeded into the Netherlands, the poor sat nav got us a bit lost at a intersection where there were about 15 major inter-European highways so we decided to pull over for the night at a truck stop.
